Have you been regretting the moment you dropped a bit of wine on your darling clutch? Or the time when your four year old tried to “feed” your handbag while you were busy doing chores? Well, ladies, all is not lost as here are some tips to clean your handbags:
First, take a damp cotton cloth, and wipe the handbag. If it is leather, try not to increase the size of the stain by wiping it to the side. Instead, wipe it up, away from the leather. Most leather handbags can handle coffee and tea stains, even alcohol; as long as you apply a few drops of water.
To make your handbags last longer, try cleaning them with leather cleaner that is not oil based or alcohol based, as those tend to take out the colour of the bag. Instead, use something that is a water based solvent.
If there is a heavy stain on your favourite handbag, take it to a professional leather cleaner, without keeping it under the sun. If you keep a stain in the sun, it gets that much harder to remove. Keep it in a cool dry place till you take it to the cleaner.
Precaution is better than cure, so avoid taking your favorite Nica bag out on rainy or dusty days, and always store them in styro foam packaging and stuffed with soft cloths or paper.
